CyberKnife S7

The CyberKnife S7 System is a next-generation robotic radiosurgery platform designed for non-invasive treatment of cancerous and benign tumors anywhere in the body. Manufactured by Accuray, it is the only system to feature a linear accelerator mounted on a 6-axis robotic arm, allowing for sub-millimeter precision from thousands of different beam angles.

Key Features & Technology

  • Synchrony® Real-Time Tracking: Uses AI to automatically track and synchronize radiation beams with a patient’s natural movements, such as breathing, in real time.
  • InCise™ Multileaf Collimator (MLC): The only MLC mounted on a robotic arm, which rapidly shapes beams to treat larger or more complex tumors while sparing healthy tissue.
  • VOLO™ Optimizer: A software advancement that accelerates treatment planning and delivery, potentially reducing session times to as little as 15 minutes.
  • Frameless Design: Unlike older systems, it does not require invasive metal head frames, instead using comfortable mesh masks or body cradles.

Clinical Applications

The system is used for Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) across a wide range of indications:

  • Malignancies: Prostate, lung, brain, spine, liver, pancreas, and kidney cancers.
  • Neurological Disorders: Trigeminal neuralgia, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), and functional disorders like essential tremors or epilepsy.
  • Re-treatment: Its precision allows for the re-irradiation of tumors that have already received previous radiation, offering a new option for recurrent cancers.

Patient Benefits

  • Non-Invasive: No incisions, anesthesia, or hospital stays are typically required.
  • Fewer Sessions: Treatments are often completed in 1 to 5 fractions over 1 to 2 weeks, compared to 20–45 sessions with conventional radiation.
  • Faster Recovery: Most patients return to normal activities the same day as their treatment.
